We have two tree spades we operate beginning when the ground thaws in the spring and we run until the ground freezes in the fall - or until we start making wreaths. The Big John is a 90" spade and will move a tree with a 9" diameter trunk. We dig a hole 90" across and 5 ' deep, then tie the evergreen branches with rope so the fit inside the frame of the spade without breaking. The 44" Vermeer spade moves a 4"diameter trunk or smaller. We have been moving trees since 1991.
